Household gas is a dangerous substance; leakage can endanger health and even life. Therefore, the installation of a gas oven must be carried out professionally, in compliance with all safety requirements.

You will learn all about the regulatory requirements for installing the oven and its implementation from our article. We described in detail the installation procedure for this type of household equipment and its connection to gas supply. Here you will find valuable advice and a list of actions that are performed to check the tightness of the connection nodes.

Safety first

A gas leak is an extremely dangerous situation that can lead to serious poisoning, explosion, property damage and death. This happens infrequently, and the cause of unhappiness is usually common - errors when connecting devices and violation of their operating conditions.

The set of rules and safety standards boils down to ensuring that all connections of the gas pipes and devices are tight, the number of such nodes must be minimized. Having studied the rules for installing gas household appliances, even a home craftsman will cope with such a task.

Gas oven
High-quality equipment is not cheap, so do not save on the correct connection of the device. Installation work will cost about 2000 rubles, taking into account the materials

During the work, it is necessary to follow the procedure for connecting equipment, use suitable materials, follow the instructions exactly. At the end of the work, all connections are checked. Compliance with the rules will allow you to get the desired result - a safely installed and connected gas oven.

When installing a built-in gas oven with your own hands, the most common violation is the use of a tee for the gas pipe, to which the hob is already connected.

Inexperienced masters believe that if it works with plumbing, then for the gas supply system will do. The result is three compounds that must be carefully sealed.

According to the rules, the connection of the oven and hob should be done separately, bringing its own pipe to each appliance. The number of compounds in this case will be reduced to two.

In practice, using a tee can be quite safe. If the thread is properly sealed, it is not so important, two connections are made when connected or three.

Incorrect gas oven connection
It is impossible to connect gas appliances through a tee, without the use of a dielectric strip and a shut-off valve for each individual consumer

But this method contradicts the existing rules for installing a gas oven. If during the check a representative of the gas service discovers such a tee, the owners of the apartment or house face a completely legal fine.

Therefore, from the very beginning, it is necessary to take this moment into account in order to connect the oven correctly. In addition, a dielectric gasket should be used, as well as a shut-off valve for each gas consuming device.

Installation and Connection Procedure

The oven may be dependent, i.e. combined with the hob common control panel, or independent. The first is mounted under the stove and installed simultaneously with it, and for the second you can choose almost any convenient place, not necessarily under the cooking surface or next to gas stove.

The connection order for both types of oven is practically the same. To do this, you must:

  • select and prepare the installation site;
  • connect the device to power supply;
  • connect to the gas supply system;
  • install in a niche or cabinet;
  • check connections for leaks;
  • Test all device features.

Before installing the built-in gas oven, it must be unpacked and inspected to make sure that there are no damages caused by inaccurate transportation.

Then you should read the manufacturer's instructions. It contains useful information that will help you take into account the features of this particular model during its installation and operation.

Gas oven installation
Before installation, you need to correlate the dimensions of the oven and the niche intended for it. If the furniture is already ready, the appliance is chosen for it. The sizes are standardized, so choosing the right model is not difficult

For effective ventilation of the outer walls of the oven, the following gaps must be provided:

  • from the back wall of the niche - 50 mm;
  • below - 100 mm;
  • on the sides - 50 mm.

In practice, these sizes are rarely respected. If the oven has a function of blowing walls, you can not worry about the ventilation gap. The lumen near the back of the appliance is usually sufficient. The rear panel of the furniture niche before installation is simply removed or holes are made in it for appropriate communications.

Ventilation clearances for a gas oven
Ventilation clearances are necessary to remove excess heat from a working appliance, to prevent overheating, furniture deformation and fire hazard

The material from which the adjacent furniture is made must withstand heat up to 120 degrees. After the device is unpacked, you need to put it near the connection point, for example, by installing it on wooden blocks. So to make the necessary manipulations will be easier.

If you need power

Modern gas ovens are equipped with many additional features, such as:

  • electric ignition;
  • fan;
  • grill;
  • electronic control, etc.

These useful devices require electricity to operate. To provide connectivity from electrical panel a three-core power cable is brought to the device, set the RCD at 16A (for appliances with a power of more than 3.5 kW - at 32 A, but such indicators are typical for electrical cabinets), provide grounding of the device.

Some modern kitchens ground outlet provided by the project and is intended for an electric stove.It can be used to connect a gas oven. Before carrying out work, disconnect the power supply, use an instrument equipped with an insulating coating, adhere to other safety rules.

Connecting a gas oven to electricity
Gas ovens must be connected to the power supply if they have electric ignition, convection or other additional functions. Simple models do not need electricity, they are easier to install

Sometimes you have to independently connect the power cable to the oven.

This simple operation is performed as follows:

  1. Open the junction box (installed on the rear panel of the device).
  2. Loosen the screws that secure the terminals.
  3. Fasten the wires of the power cable to the terminals.
  4. Fix the connection by tightening the screws.
  5. Close the lid of the box.

The exact wiring diagram for the power cable is usually given in the instructions.

Safety rules prohibit the use of extension cords, double sockets, twists and other elements that may not withstand voltage, cause fire, short circuit, etc. for such a connection. The position of the cable should be such that it heats up to no more than 70 degrees.

Connection of the device to gas supply

At this stage, it is better to adhere to the rule "not sure - call the master." Errors and carelessness when installing a gas oven are unacceptable. Gas leakage can cause a serious explosion. Inexperienced craftsmen should contact gas service professionals.

As mentioned, for the oven, a connection branch is required separate from the hob, on which a faucet is installed, so that the flow of gas to the device can be interrupted. Be sure to install a dielectric gasket, which will open the electrical network if voltage occurs on gas pipe.

Sealing gas joints
To seal the joints of gas connections, use flaxseed, FUM tape and other means that are designed for such communications

Flexible bellows are used for the connection. gas hose or a metal pipe - copper or steel. A hard connection is used if the oven is very close to the main line.

The hose is more convenient to use where the distance is greater or where it is more difficult to bring the pipe. The connection point usually has standard dimensions - a half-inch pipe equipped with an external thread.

When using a hose, you must:

  • make sure that it is not pinched, tensioned and not in contact with elements that move;
  • make only two connections - at the entrance to the oven and on the main gas pipe;
  • be sure to install a dielectric gasket and a tap;
  • use a length of not more than 1.2 meters;
  • Do not extend the hose; it must be integral.

From the tool to seal the connection, gas wrenches and two-pipe tongs may be needed. As a sealant, you can use FUM tape, equipped with a fluoroplastic film, designed for gas pipes.

A universal nylon cord impregnated with sealant is also suitable. Insert the gasket into the nut that secures the connection. Tighten fasteners tightly, but carefully so as not to damage this gasket.

Bellows hose for gas pipe
Most often, a flexible bellows hose is used to connect such devices. A rigid connection is appropriate where it is easy to perform and the minimum distance from the oven to the pipe

Some masters use the old method - flax thread with drying oil, but it is considered not too reliable. In any case, you need to take a tool that is certified as designed specifically for gas pipes. It must be resistant to pressure drops, vibration, temperature changes, corrosion and other destructive factors.

The thread is wrapped three times with teflon tape, then tighten the connection until it stops. The connection must be tightened with a gas wrench.If a certain amount of sealant comes out, this is normal.

Other sealing agents must be used in accordance with the instructions. For example, the base for a nylon thread should be slightly roughened. A smooth surface reduces adhesion, so it is first treated.

Leak test and completion

To verify the tightness of threaded connections, use a simple method. Soap foam is applied to all joints and gas is opened. In places of leakage foam will bubble. To eliminate the error, you need to re-seal, and then check the result again.

Installing the oven in a niche
An experienced craftsman can connect such an oven in about thirty minutes or a little more. It’s not difficult to do the work, it’s important to do everything right to prevent emergencies

After connecting to the gas pipe and power supply, you need to fix the oven in the mounting niche. Usually this is done with four screws, details are described in the instructions. Then check the operation of the device.

First you need to remove all the films and stickers. Then connect the oven to electricity, turn on the RCD. After that, open the tap on the gas pipe and light the oven. If the device works correctly, the installation can be considered completed.
